Expert Answers about GMC RV Awnings

  • Availability of a RV Awning With a 9' Width
  • Currently a 10' Awning # LCV000211446 is going to be the narrowest we carry. You would need the Arm Set # LC759516 and just under 10' of Rail Extrusion # LC715217 to install it. Do note the width of an awning is not measured on the fabric but the width of the center of the arms from one side to the other. A 9' wide awning would have to be special ordered from a local RV dealer.

  • Does Solera 18V Power RV Awning Come With Lock
  • The Solera 18V Power RV Awning # LC729517 used to have a locking latch on the arms but Lippert stopped making it. Since the awning never really had problems with wind or while driving they decided it wasn't needed. The same is true for any of their power awnings. I have seen some people run straps behind the bracket that they can secure around the arms to hold them in place but nobody makes a specific lock for the awning.

  • Recommended Awning Mounting Brackets
  • We have two options to attach awning fabric to the side of your RV. They are the 8' Solera Awning Rail Extrusion in white item # LC715216 and in black item # LC715217. Additionally, we have a few brackets for slide out awnings like item # LC795354 but they are specific to Solera models. Either way I would need to know what model of awning you have to confirm the right brackets for you. If you could email me this information directly or comment below I would be happy to help. • Do Awning Arms Need To Be Secured To The Wall Framing?
  • When installing an awning like the Solera Smart Arm 12V Power RV Awning # LC517486, the arms will be secured to the wall framing. When the awning extends there will be quite a bit of leverage, so it is important to mount the awning to an area where there is support behind the wall. That said, awnings are mainly supported by the framing at the top of the RV, so it isn't crucial to have the arms line up with vertical studs. The top part of the arms will be secured to the top framing and...

  • Solution to Add LED Strip to Solera 3000 Series Awning Roller
  • For an LED strip on the roller you could add something like the Optronics Flexible LED Light Strip - Weatherproof - White - 17' Long # UCL90CB. However, you will need to figure out how to run power to the strip and account for the rolling/unrolling with the power wire. There is the option of using the Solera Power Awning Idler Head w/ LED Upgrade # LC334785. However, this is designed to add lights to the inside of the tube, not on it. It also does not match your current Regal idler head...

  • Recommended RV Step Handrail When There Isn't Enough To Room To Mount It To The Wall
  • Hi Donna, If you don't have enough room then there are other handrail options available depending on the style of steps your RV has. For example, if you have pull-out steps then you could install the Stromberg Carlson Rail Mate Folding Handrail for RV Steps # AP-101. This handrail has a bracket that you'll bolt to the side of the steps to allow you to easily mount and remove it as needed. If you have a different style of steps then let me know and I'd be happy to look for a solution.
